THE PLAYERS

SAM NEWGARTH, MBE.
When Sam Newgarth was at primary school, his headmaster spotted a talent for music and entered him for a scholarship as a Junior Exhibitioner at The Royal Academy of Music. He was awarded the place, and at the age of seventeen won a major county scholarship to the Academy and remained as a full time student for four years, studying Violin, Piano, Composition and Conducting. He decided that conducting was much easier than playing an instrument, because, as he quaintly puts it, you can't play any wrong notes when you are conducting. So he launched himself on a professional conducting career, which took him all over the world for a period of 45 years, conducting shows, opera, ballet and concerts. In 1976 he founded the Bournemouth Philharmonic Society of which he is chairman and principal conductor, and two or three years after that was asked to take over as principal conductor of the Westbourne Orchestral Society. During this period his concerts have raised around £100,000 for various charities. In lighter vein, his highly acclaimed Evening of Popular Classics has been doing the rounds of the churches and concert venues in Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire for the past ten years. If anyone needs to raise money for a worthy cause, or wishes to book either of the orchestras or the Evening of Popular Classics for an evening’s entertainment - Sam's the man! FlautistBRENDA CLERICI is a real personality, and not only can she make the flute sound lovely, but she can also produce the fireworks. Here we have a really fine flautist who is an experienced soloist and orchestral player, and also a very fine and dedicated teacher of the instrument. She finds it very difficult to meet all the demands made on her. We're not sure why - she only works twelve hours a day seven days a week
JULIE VIVIENNE is one of those sopranos who is much in demand for recitals, oratorio and orchestral concerts. Although she is a lyric soprano, she can get her voice to do most things, such as songs from the shows, opera and operetta, and some technical fireworks.  Here is a young lady with a fine voice, musicality and personality
JOHN TURNER may be described as a velvet voiced baritone, who is much in demand for his singing, both in opera and in the lighter vein. He is also the conductor of The Wimborne Orchestra, and his singing has given pleasure to countless numbers of people.

PHIL WILLIAMS is a fine pianist, organist, flautist, composer and arranger. He is also a fine teacher, soloist and accompanist, and if that is not enough, he is a Bachelor of Science. What more can we ask?

They're all a pretty busy lot really!
