The Bournemouth Philharmonic Society |

Conductor: Sam Newgarth, MBE, LRAM Leader: Janet Fortnum, LRAM, ARCM, GRSM
The
Orchestra of the
Bournemouth Philharmonic Societywas founded by Sam Newgarth in 1976 with nine musicians.Through
the years the orchestra has grown, not only in numbers, but in
stature, and is respected as a very fine orchestra. Much of the
work of
the
orchestra is devoted to raising money for deserving causes. |
Among those who have been given the opportunity are the brilliant young cellist, Natalie Clein, the very fine clarinettist, Fiona Cross, the amazing young violist Rebecca Chamber, currently with the Tippett Quartet, etc. etc.Now that the Bournemouth Winter Gardens, where we were able to display their talents effectively, has finally and very regrettably closed its doors permanently, orchestras in the South of England must search out other suitable venues for their performances. It will be very difficult to match the atmosphere and acoustics of that fine concert hall. |
